METHODS OF INTEGRATION WITH BACNETP2

Two Hosts for the System

Once you have decided that BACnetP2 is the solution you are looking for, there are a few things to consider. One of the considerations is what additional hardware, if any, will be required for the particular set up. There are two different ways of hosting the gateway. It can be hosted by running Ubuntu on a Virtual Machine or running it on a dedicated Linux device. In either case multiple gateways can be hosted to connect to multiple networks.

Once the method of hosting has been decided, there are 3 basic network configurations: For RS485 BLN’s (FLN’s) you can connect using either a RS485 USB adaptor or using an IP modem. The IP modem option requires a fast Ethernet LAN and is not suitable for use over a slower WAN. For Ethernet BLN’s no extra hardware is required, we connect directly via Ethernet.

Number of gateways:

For RS485 BLN’s (FLN’s), 1 gateway is required per network.
For Ethernet BLN’s, 1 gateway can connect to multiple networks.
Multiple gateways can be hosted on one Linux device.

Notes:

BLN stands for “Building level Network” and can be P2/RS485 or P2/Ethernet or BACnet/IP.
FLN stands for “Floor Level Network” and is always P1/RS485

NEW Protocols Supported

We support 4 distinct variations of the protocol:

  • P2/Ethernet
  • P2/RS485
  • P1/RS485
  • P1/BACnet
